Today, technology advances at warp speed. Sometimes it is hard to keep up with all the advances. As a professional interior designer in Bergen County NJ I am always trying to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to appliances in the kitchen.
Clients who are updating or upgrading the kitchen or starting from scratch on a new kitchen have so many new choices that weren’t around even 10 years ago. Want to be able to preheat your oven when you are in the car, driving home from work or taking the kids to after-school activities? There is an app for that!
Do you or your spouse love to cook in a certain style? There are appliances that are customized for the way you cook…a steam oven, a rotisserie, a pizza oven or a teppanyaki grill. Maybe you want to include all of these in your new kitchen?
Smart appliances are getting smarter with new features that you could use added when the new models are introduced. Now we are lucky to have new sizes that help the designer have more flexibility in smaller kitchen spaces without sacrificing function and use.

Here are a few of the latest trends in cooking appliances now:
#1. Induction cooking.
This is still a strong trend. People who love induction cooking cite it for its safety benefits, energy efficiency and improved performance. You do need to get new pots and pans to use this appliance.
#2. Personalized cooking
People are very interested in cooking as healthy as possible. Steam ovens allow you to cook quickly using very little fat. Cooking options include warming drawers, microwave drawers, pizza ovens, wok and griddle options so you can select the kind of cooking you like to do.
#3. More finish choices
Stainless steel is still #1 but other choices are inching up. Matte black, white and charcoal are coming into their own. And color has become a dramatic focal point in the kitchen. Brilliant cobalt blue, bright orange and red are now considered signature colors.
